The original specification required the craft to be fast, yet carry a high payload of vehicles for her size. On trials she achieved a record speed of 55.9kt, making her the fastest diesel-powered passenger ferry in commercial service at that time.

Quality ship with ice class. She accommodates up to 550 passengers on 7 decks with all amenities. The ship was completely overhauled in 2012 and represents an excellent base for expeditionary cruising or boutique niche markets but will need a serious investment to return to service because she has been in laid-up status for several years. On offer is the ex. Alkor that was built in 1966 in Germany as a research ship for renowned German research institute GEOMAR. She logged an impressive 326,000nm roaming the Baltic and North Sea during that service.
In the 1990s ALK was refurbished in the Netherlands to become a private pleasure yacht. In the 2000s ALK received further upgrades to operate a submarine from her deck, all while maintaining her excellent seagoing characteristics and sturdy character.
